What is confirmation?

what we now call confirmation was originally part of a wider ceremony of Christian initiation and only became separated when bishops were no longer able to preside at all baptisms.

Today confirmation marks the point in a person's Christian journey at which they commit themselves to the Christian way of life which began at their baptism (christening).

Those who have been baptised (as children or now at the confirmation service) affirm for themselves the faith into which they have been baptised and their intention to live a Christlike life. The person is confirmed by the bishop who places his hands on their head and the Church , with the bishop, also asks God to give them power through the Holy Spirit to enable them to live in this way.

The next service of Confirmation will take place in June 2009 (date to be confirmed).

If you would like to be confirmed please complete and return a form to the Vicar. Children must aged 10 or above.

There will be a series of preparation sessions for those wishing to be confirmed, each lasting no more than one hour. The preparation groups will use the course Faith Confirmed to look at a broad sweep of the Christian faith and lots of use is made of pictures, video, discussions etc. Those who would life a 'refresher' or who are just interested in talking about their faith are also welcome.
