There will be a local service of Confirmation by the Bishop of Middleton at 7.30pm on Wednesday 2rd June. This will take place at St. George's and we will be joined by people from other churches in Ashton Deanery.. Those wishing to be confirmed please contact vicar@stg.org.uk. Children must be in year 6 or above. There will be a series of preparation groups for those wishing to be confirmed, each lasting no more than one hour. These will be arranged to suit members of the group and will be announced shortly. The preparation groups will look at a broad sweep of the Christian faith and lots of use is made of pictures, video, discussions etc. They will be an opportunity to think about faith and explore ideas. Some people might find this useful, whether or not they go on to confirmation – all are welcome . What is confirmation?what we now call confirmation was originally part of a wider ceremony of Christian initiation and only became separated when bishops were no longer able to preside at all baptisms. Today confirmation marks the point in a person's Christian journey at which they commit themselves to the Christian way of life which began at their baptism (christening). Those who have been baptised (as children or now at the confirmation service) affirm for themselves the faith into which they have been baptised and their intention to practice a Christian way of life. The person is confirmed by the bishop A useful resource book to look at one, well illustrated sumary of Christian faith is Faith Confirmed .
