Bishop Mark, our local bishop, recently came to an afternoon children's ' Agapé' to meet the children and present children's Bibles. The Bible's were the idea of Liam, one of the regulars.

'But just don't take them home and leave them on the shelf - read them!' Bishop Mark encouraged the children. 'Find out how God has changed people's lives, how God can change your life.'

Agapé began as a children's service in 2000 and was the idea of Enid Longden, a member of St George's, who had been inspired by a similar project in Todmorden. About 20 children of primary school age are currently involved. Most of them do not attend church on Sunday and we see this as their Sunday worship. They come after school for fruit and drinks and then go into church for a short act of worship around the altar table, including simple prayers and the breaking and sharing of a bread roll. The session concludes with creative activities in the church lounge around a particular theme.

There is a team of 6 leaders together with a rota of other volunteers. Often the group is joined by parents or family members and we hope that this will develop in future.
