A BLESSING is the filling of something with God's love or one's hopes for the future. At St George's we conduct formal blessings from time to time. These include blessings,

  • after marriage in a registry office
  • to celebrate a wedding anniversary
  • to give thanks for a child
  • for a new home
  • for a home where there is a disturbed atmosphere
  • for beginning new work, responsibility or ministry

BLESSING OF CIVIL PARTNERSHIPS
In September and October 2005 the Church Council had a thorough discussion about whether or not to permit the blessings of Civil Partnerships or other same-sex blessings in St George's Church. It was decided at the October meeting that the church was not yet ready for this but that it would be kept under review.

The Vicar, Revd Ian Stubbs, is willing to perform blessings of Civil Partnerships in other locations. Please make further enquiries to Ian via email or ring 0161 338 2368.

May the LORD bless you, and keep you;
May the LORD make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
May the LORD turn his countenance to you and grant you peace.
